The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is seeking bidders for a PHP10 billion project to modernise and extend the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) in Metro Manila, Philippines. Works will include replacing the existing LRT-2 rolling stock and expanding the line by at least three km. The contract is expected to be awarded by end-2022.
The west extension will add three new stations to the LRT-2 including Tutuban, Divisoria and Pier 4. The extension will also require the purchase of five new trains with four-car configurations. The project is expected to cost around PHP10.12 billion.
The LRT-2 currently has a daily footfall of 239,000 passengers. Once the west extension is opened to traffic, ridership on the LRT line is expected to increase to 300,000 passengers per day.
