The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) announced that the southern extension of the Purple Line has reached 65 per cent completion, with the first tunnel-boring machine (TBM), nicknamed Pasuta, breaking through into Memorial Bridge station.

The fourth contract of the project, covering the Memorial Bridge–Dao Khanong section and executed by Unique Engineering and Construction Plc, has seen 3.3 km of tunnels bored since January 2024. Tunnel boring began from Somdej Phra Pinklao station, passing through the sixth shaft to Wongwian Yai, and finally reaching Memorial Bridge station.

The southern extension spans 23.63 km with 17 stations, including 10 underground and seven elevated, linking Tao Poon in the north to Ratburana in the south. Once operational, it will integrate the northern and northwestern Bangkok Metropolitan Region with the southern part of the capital, improving connectivity across the city.
