Thailand’s Ministry of Transport (MoT) has confirmed that the THB20 flat fare for all eight electric train lines in Bangkok and surrounding areas will come into effect on September 30, 2025. Public registration for the fare subsidy will open in August via the “Tang Rat” mobile app, which will verify Thai ID and link to EMV or Rabbit Cards. Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit emphasised that the initiative aims to reduce commuting costs and encourage greater use of public transit. Despite some initial technical limitations, such as dual card use across lines, all registered users will enjoy the capped fare from launch.

The capped fare will apply to the Red Line, Airport Rail Link, Blue, Purple, Pink, Yellow, Green, and Gold lines. While passengers may initially need to carry multiple cards depending on line compatibility, the government plans to integrate QR code payments via the app by the end of 2026. Registration is mandatory to receive the benefit; otherwise, standard fares will apply.
