The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has announced that the Bangkok-Nakhon Ratchasima high-speed rail (HSR) line is expected to commence passenger operations in 2027. Works on the 608-km-long line, spanning Bangkok to Nong Khai, are underway with around 24 per cent physical progress reported as of August 2023. The line will be constructed in two phases.
Phase 1 of the Line will span 253 km connecting Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasima. The line is being developed at an investment of THB180 billion. Meanwhile, Phase 2 of the Line will span 355 km connecting Nakhon Ratchasima to Nong Khai. The line will be developed at an investment of THB300 billion and the design phase is completed. Once the approval from the Government of Thailand is granted, bidding will commence for the construction of this phase.
The line will feature train sets consisting of eight cars. The tender for rolling stock delivery is yet to be announced.
