The Government of Indonesia has announced that work on the first phase of the Bali Light Rail Transit (LRT) project is set to commence in September 2024. This will cover the initial section from Ngurah Rai Airport to Kuta.

Most of the line will be underground and construction is set to take around three to four years to complete. Korea National Railways (KNR) is currently undertaking feasibility studies on the line, with funding from the Korea Exim Bank, with completion set for mid-2024. Financing plans for the project are yet to be finalised.

The Ministry of Transportation also plans to announce tenders to select the contractor in the upcoming months.

In the future, the provincial government also plans on establishing multiple LRT connections in Bali from the airport to various points where traffic congestion is significant, such as Sunset Road, Legian, and Canggu.
