The Government of Bắc Ninh Province has started compensating households for land clearance to develop the Gia Binh International Airport. More than VND1.38 trillion (USD52.5 million) will be provided to over 2,400 households across 20 villages in Lương Tài Commune between November 4–12 to clear 313 hectares. The airport will occupy around 1,884 hectares, with total investment estimated at nearly VND197 trillion (USD7.5 billion), making it larger than Nội Bài Airport and second only to Long Thành Airport.

The airport is planned for a 70-year operational period from 2025 to 2095. It is being designed to meet international 5-star service standards, target top-10 global airport rankings under Skytrax metrics, and participate in Airports Council International’s ASQ programme. Gia Binh is expected to function as a northern aviation gateway, a regional passenger and cargo transit hub, and a major maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) centre in the Asia-Pacific region.

Development will take place in multiple phases. Phase 1.1 (2025–2027) will construct essential facilities in time for the 2027 APEC Summit. Phase 1.2 (2026–2030) will complete the full operational infrastructure, enabling capacity for 30 million passengers per year. Phase 2 (2031–2050) will expand capacity to 50 million passengers and 2.5 million tonnes of cargo annually.
