Apple Pay Express Transit mode is now working at most MRT and LRT fare gates in Singapore, allowing passengers to pay for train journeys by tapping an iPhone or Apple Watch without unlocking the device or manually activating Apple Pay. The feature, which has not been officially announced by the Land Transport Authority (LTA), is currently not supported on buses.

Express Transit mode allows users to select a payment card for transit payments through their device settings. Passengers are required to use the same device when tapping in and out to avoid potential double charges, as each device uses a unique digital payment token. The feature also allows an iPhone to be used for transit payments for up to five hours after its battery has run out.
