The Aurora Pacific Economic Zone and Freeport Authority (APECO) and Huge Energy have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop a renewable energy project with a planned capacity of up to 1 GW in Casiguran, Aurora, Philippines. The project will be developed in three phases, with the initial phase comprising a 100 MW solar photovoltaic plant, battery energy storage system (BESS) and substation.
The second phase is planned to add 350 MW through a combination of solar and waste-to-energy technologies, while the final phase will add 550 MW, bringing the total planned capacity to 1 GW. APECO has allocated 90 hectares for the project, with Huge Energy and South Korean energy, procurement and construction company Dong-A Global managing the development. The project will cover planning, permitting, feasibility studies, grid interconnection, procurement, financing and operations and maintenance, subject to technical and financial evaluations and regulatory approvals.
