Alstom and Vingroup, through Vinhomes, have entered an agreement covering up to 83 five-car Metropolis metro trains and a technology licence to support the assembly of 117 additional trains in Vietnam. The first 83 trainsets will be designed and manufactured at Alstom’s Valenciennes Petite-Forêt facility in France, while the additional 117 trains will be assembled by Vingroup in Vietnam using components supplied by Alstom.

The partnership supports Hanoi’s plans to expand its urban rail network. Under the city’s Capital Master Plan with a 100-year vision, Hanoi aims to develop a 979-km urban rail network comprising 18 lines by 2045. Alstom has previously supplied and integrated the metro system for Hanoi Metro Line 3, including 10 four-car Metropolis trains, Urbalis 400 signalling, power supply and depot equipment.
