Malaysia-based AirAsia was recognised as the “World’s Leading Low-Cost Airline 2013” by the World Travel Awards. The airline beat eight other budget flight nominees worldwide to get to the top of the low-cost airline list. AirAsia had previously won the same title in 2011, 2010, and 2009.

Further, AirAsia was also named “Asia’s Leading Low-Cost Airline 2013”, surpassing 11 companies including UK-based easyJet and  US-based Southwest Airlines. Though the company was also nominated for the “World’s Leading Airline 2013”, it lost to the UAE’s Etihad Airways.

AirAsia had been previously nominated under the World Travel Awards’ “2012 World’s Leading Low-Cost Airline”, “2010 World’s Leading Airline to Asia”, and “2007 Asia’s Leading Budget/No Frills Airline” categories.
