The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) of Singapore, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) of Lao PDR, and the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) of Cambodia have partnered as a working group to enhance cross-border electricity trade, advancing the ASEAN Power Grid vision.
This collaboration aims to achieve three key outcomes. First, the group will create a framework to facilitate the development of cross-border electricity trading projects in ASEAN, starting with a project involving Lao PDR, Cambodia, and Singapore. Second, it will streamline regulatory approvals and licenses for electricity generation, export, and import, as well as develop guidelines for subsea surveys and cross-border subsea power cable installations. Lastly, the group will work on facilitating commercial arrangements and developing infrastructure for cross-border electricity trading among the three countries.
