The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced plans to approve a USD1.75 billion loan to fund the South Commuter Railway project in the Philippines. The project is also known as PNR Calamba, and is a part of the 147 km North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) system.

Once operational, it will reduce travel time between Clark International Airport in Pampanga province to Calamba City from almost four hours to 1.5 hours. The rail system is expected to receive a daily footfall of up to 1 million passengers. During the July 2021 bidding for the project, the PNR Calamba received 23 offers from 17 international and six local businesses interested in participating in the railway system’s construction.
