Therma Marine Incorporation (TMI), a subsidiary of Aboitiz Power, has commenced construction of a 48 MW hybrid battery energy storage system (BESS) at its TMI Mobile 2 floating oil-fired power plant in Nasipit Bay, Agusan del Norte, Philippines. The project aims to enhance grid stability by enabling faster response times and supporting the increasing share of renewable energy on the Mindanao grid.

The Nasipit project follows the 49 MW hybrid BESS at TMI Mobile 1 in Maco, Davao de Oro, operational since 2022. The new BESS, expected online by Q2 2026, will integrate with the floating power barge originally built in 1994. Aboitiz Power continues to expand its energy storage initiatives, aligning with national targets of achieving a 35 per cent renewable energy (RE) share by 2030 and 50 per cent by 2040 under the Philippines Energy Plan 2023-2050.
