President and CEO of Malayan Bank Berhad (Maybank), Abdul Wahid Bin Omar, has been appointed a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office in Malaysia. As a consequence, Bin Omar has resigned from his post as President and CEO of the company, a position he had held since May 2008. Maybank is the most valuable company listed on Bursa Malaysia and Southeast Asia’s fourth largest bank.

Prior to joining Maybank, Bin Omar was CEO and Managing Director of Telekom Malaysia Berhad and its subsidiary, VADS Berhad, between July 2004 and April 2008. In the past, he served as CEO of TM International Sdn Berhad, United Engineers (Malaysia) Berhad (UEM), and UEM World Berhad. Earlier, he worked in various capacities at organisations including Bumiputra Merchant Bankers Berhad, Kumpulan Fima Berhad, and Amanah Capital Partners Berhad. He has also served as Chairman, or Director, in a number of companies in Malaysia.

Bin Omar is a Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, UK, and the Malaysian Institute of Accountants.
