The Government of Vietnam is preparing to open Long Thanh International Airport on December 1, 2026, with the first phase providing capacity for 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo annually. Located about 40 km east of Ho Chi Minh City, the airport is being developed to relieve pressure on Tan Son Nhat International Airport and strengthen international passenger and cargo connectivity.

International passenger and freight operations are expected to shift gradually from December 2026, with airlines encouraged to relocate services voluntarily through March 2027. Long-haul services are expected to increase progressively, with most international flights expected to operate from Long Thanh from March 2028. Road and public transport connections with Ho Chi Minh City and neighbouring provinces are also being advanced to support passenger access.
