Former Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista has been elected as an independent director to fill a vacant board seat at San Miguel Corporation (SMC). Bautista will serve the remainder of the term of the seat, which became vacant on June 9, 2026.

Bautista served as the Philippines’ Secretary of Transportation from 2022 to 2025. Prior to joining the government, he held several senior positions at Philippine Airlines, including president and chief operating officer from 2004 to 2012 and 2014 to 2019, as well as executive vice-president and chief financial officer from 1993 to 2003.

He currently serves as an independent director of San Miguel Food and Beverage and Eagle Cement, and has held board positions at several other companies, including Cosco Capital, Philippine Bank of Communications, Alphaland, Airspeed International, Gothong Southern Shipping and MacroAsia Group.

SMC said Bautista’s finance and business experience across the private and public sectors would provide relevant expertise to the company’s board. Bautista is a certified public accountant and holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce, majoring in accounting, from Colegio de San Letran, where he graduated magna cum laude, as well as a Doctor of Humanities degree.
