Thailand’s Transport Ministry is preparing to sign the contract for a new road bridge connecting mainland Krabi with Koh Lanta, with the project scheduled to open in 2029. The approximately 2-kilometre bridge will connect Nua Khlong district in Krabi with Koh Lanta Noi in Koh Lanta district.
The bridge is expected to reduce travel time between Koh Lanta and the mainland, which currently involves a ferry journey of around 30 minutes. Transport Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn said the project will facilitate the movement of local residents, tourists, goods and patients, while also supporting the evacuation of people during emergencies and disasters.
Koh Lanta district comprises two islands that are already connected by the Siri Lanta bridge. The new bridge will provide a direct road connection between the island district and mainland Krabi.
The Krabi–Koh Lanta bridge is one of two southern Thailand bridge projects whose contracts are ready for signing. The other is a 7-kilometre bridge across Songkhla Lake connecting Songkhla and Phatthalung provinces.
