China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) Tianjin Rail Transit Operation Co., Ltd. has secured the infrastructure maintenance project for the East Section of Malaysia’s East Coast Rail Link (ECRL).
Under the contract, the company will provide railway infrastructure maintenance and full-line heavy machinery maintenance services for the ECRL. The award expands CCCC Tianjin Rail Transit’s overseas rail operation and maintenance portfolio, following its involvement in the Mombasa–Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) operation and maintenance project in Kenya.
The ECRL is a major China–Malaysia Belt and Road Initiative railway project, spanning approximately 665 km with a designed maximum operating speed of 160 km/h. The line is scheduled to begin commercial operations in December 2026.
CCCC Tianjin Rail Transit has already deployed its core project team to the site to prepare for operations. The company plans to apply its overseas railway operation and maintenance management systems and experience from the Kenyan SGR project, alongside the technical requirements of the ECRL, to deliver localised maintenance services. The contract further strengthens China–Malaysia cooperation in railway operations and maintenance and represents another overseas milestone for CCCC Tianjin Rail Transit’s rail O&M business.
