The City Government of Marikina has commenced construction of the Marikina Active Transport Park in Barangay Marikina Heights, with an investment of more than PHP30 million. Mayor Marjorie Ann Teodoro led the groundbreaking ceremony for the project, which is aimed at strengthening the city’s reputation as a bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly urban centre. The project is being developed with support from the national government through the Department of Transportation.
The transport park will feature a skate and BMX park, end-of-trip facilities for cyclists and commuters, a pet park, outdoor exercise areas, and community spaces. City officials stated that no trees will be removed during construction. The facility is intended to encourage active mobility and provide supporting infrastructure for cyclists, pedestrians, and recreational users.
Marikina is widely recognised for promoting cycling infrastructure and sustainable urban mobility within Metro Manila. The Active Transport Park forms part of the city’s broader efforts to encourage non-motorised transport and improve public spaces. Subject to schedule, the project is expected to be completed by February 2027.
