Amazon has announced plans to invest more than USD33 billion in cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure across Southeast Asia through 2039, with investment commitments focused on Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. The Philippines was not included among the countries selected for planned cloud infrastructure expansion despite being one of the region’s larger digital economy markets.

The planned investments are expected to contribute more than USD64 billion to the combined gross domestic product of the four markets and support over 56,300 full-time equivalent jobs annually within local data centre supply chains. Amazon stated that Southeast Asia’s digital economy is projected to reach USD560 billion by 2030, supporting increased investment in cloud infrastructure, AI capabilities and workforce development. The company currently operates Amazon Web Services (AWS) regions in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand and stated that it invested over USD3 billion in Southeast Asia in 2025 across infrastructure and operations.

Although the Philippines was excluded from the planned infrastructure expansion programme, Amazon noted that the country remains an active user of AWS technologies, including artificial intelligence applications. The company highlighted the use of generative AI-powered analytics by Union Bank of the Philippines and stated that it has trained more than 2.7 million individuals across Southeast Asia in cloud-related skills since 2017 as part of broader efforts to develop an AI-ready workforce.
