Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region is strengthening cooperation with Vietnam through a three connectivity strategy focused on infrastructure, trade and investment, and people-to-people exchanges.

On hard connectivity, Guangxi has expanded cross-border infrastructure, including two railway links to the China–Vietnam border and 13 expressways connecting to border gates, of which 10 are already completed. The region also operates nine land border crossings, such as Dongxing and Youyiguan Border Gate, and is developing smart border gates to enable automated, 24/7 customs clearance. Maritime links are also growing, with Beibu Gulf ports operating 35 container routes connecting to major Vietnamese ports like Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnam is concurrently advancing key infrastructure projects, including standard-gauge railways such as Dong Dang–Hanoi and Mong Cai–Ha Long–Hai Phong, alongside expressways and smart port systems to strengthen cross-border connectivity.

In terms of soft connectivity, trade between Guangxi and Vietnam reached approximately USD45 billion in 2025, accounting for about 38 per cent of Guangxi’s total foreign trade.

For people-to-people connectivity, Guangxi continues to promote cultural and educational exchanges, hosting more than 3,400 Vietnamese students and supporting joint tourism initiatives such as the Detian–Ban Gioc cross-border waterfall zone. Authorities are also expanding cooperation through cultural festivals, sports events, and city-level partnerships. The initiative reflects a broader push to deepen economic integration and regional cooperation between China and Vietnam, supported by improved infrastructure, growing trade flows, and stronger social ties.
