The Government of Cambodia has formed an inter-ministerial task force to oversee the redevelopment of the former Phnom Penh International Airport site into a public park, while retaining part of the land for emergency aircraft landings.

The 14-member task force will follow two guiding principles: preserving the site as a state-owned emergency landing facility and converting the remaining area into a large recreational space.

Planned features include jogging tracks, tree planting, water retention using existing ponds, and adaptive reuse of selected buildings for commercial activities or museums reflecting the airport’s history. The government expects the project to be completed by early 2026 and has earmarked about USD3 million annually for maintenance.
