The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has completed improvements on over 1,100 km of sidewalks across the city, exceeding its initial goal of 1,000 km. The initiative is part of BMA’s good travel policy aimed at enhancing walkability and positioning Bangkok as a smart city.

The upgrades focused on high-footfall areas and 35 mass transit stations, covering more than 99 roads, including Wireless, Ratchadamri, Sukhumvit, and Lad Prao. Enhancements include dismantling or repairing sidewalks as needed, adjusting slopes to international standards for wheelchair users, and installing guiding bricks for the blind.

BMA has also addressed over 120,000 complaints related to obstructions and lighting through the Traffy Fondue app. The improved sidewalks are expected to promote walking, improve public health, and support local businesses.
