Buhawind Energy Northern Luzon Corporation (BENLC) has received approval from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to connect its 2 GW North Luzon offshore wind project to the national grid. Located in Ilocos Norte, the project is slated to begin commercial operations by mid-2030.
Grid integration will depend on the completion of NGCP’s planned 500 kV Burgos Substation and the Philippine Ports Authority’s assessment of the Port of Currimao for offshore wind operations. The project was granted a pre-development environmental compliance certificate in May 2025 and has been designated as an energy project of national significance. It also received a green lane certificate from the Board of Investments.
BENLC is a joint venture between PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC) and Denmark-based Copenhagen Energy Group. As of end-2024, the Philippines had 29 GW of installed power capacity, with only 1.5 per cent from wind (427 MW onshore).
