The Government of Indonesia will release its first national artificial intelligence (AI) strategy in August 2025, aiming to attract foreign investment and accelerate domestic AI development. The roadmap will outline how AI can be applied across sectors like healthcare and agriculture, while guiding developers on infrastructure requirements and computational clusters.
The move follows regional competitors like Malaysia, which has already secured substantial AI-related investments. Indonesia has seen slower progress, hindered by gaps in AI-related infrastructure and workforce skills. While companies like Nvidia and Microsoft have made early moves—supporting GoTo with language models and investing USD1.7 billion in AI and cloud expansion, respectively—analysts argue the country still lacks readiness for large-scale AI deployment. The roadmap is expected to set the foundation, although specific safeguards for data, misinformation, and intellectual property remain unclear.
