The Ninh Binh provincial government has proposed Liem Tuyen commune as the location for the planned Ninh Binh International Airport. The selected site spans approximately 720 hectares and offers strong regional connectivity. It lies 80 km from Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport, 85 km from Hai Phong’s Cat Bi Airport, 63 km from the under-construction Gia Binh Airport in Bac Ninh, and is near the proposed North–South high-speed rail corridor.

The airport is expected to meet ICAO’s 4E standards, enabling it to handle wide-body aircraft such as Boeing 787, Boeing 777, and Airbus A350. Authorities plan to develop the airport in phases, with an initial capacity to serve 10 million passengers annually. The location aims to ease pressure on nearby airports and improve access to northern Vietnam.
