Globe Telecom aims to shift over 3,000 of its cell sites in Metro Manila and Calabarzon to renewable energy by 2028, reducing annual greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 5.5 million kilograms and consuming 80 million kWh of clean electricity. This initiative builds on Globe’s participation in the Energy Regulatory Commission’s Retail Aggregation Program (RAP), enabling companies to consolidate power demand across sites and select renewable suppliers more efficiently.
Globe is executing the transition in partnership with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), another Ayala Group entity. The effort accelerates Globe’s Scope 2 emissions reduction and aligns with its net-zero roadmap. Since 2019, Globe has adopted frameworks like the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP) and the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA), powering 33 high-consumption facilities with renewables. In 2023, 24 per cent of Globe’s electricity came from clean sources. The company also deployed over 38,000 green solutions to boost energy efficiency. By 2030, Globe targets a 42 per cent reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and 25 per cent in value chain emissions, using 2021 as the base year, with an ultimate goal of cutting 90 per cent of its total carbon footprint by 2050.
