The Hanoi People’s Council has greenlit an infrastructure plan to develop eight new metro lines spanning over 320 km, including 81.2 km of underground sections and 68 underground stations. Approved on July 10, the plan is part of a broader push to modernise the city’s public transport network and address worsening traffic congestion. Two of the new metro lines will directly link the city with airports—Noi Bai International Airport and a second planned airport in the south.
The eight metro corridors include key routes such as Noi Bai–Thuong Dinh–Buoi, Van Cao–Hoa Lac, and Ring Road 2–Southern Axis–Second Airport. Alongside metro development, the resolution also encourages investment in five underground roads underpasses, 78 underground parking facilities, and two underground public spaces. The plan further includes 95 street-level cable burial and utility ducting projects, aiming to streamline urban infrastructure and improve safety.
