The Government of Vietnam has approved the formation of a committee to review the preliminary feasibility report for the Binh Duong Metro Line 1 project. The planned route will run from Ho Phu Ward’s S1 Station in Thu Dau Mot to the Xianquan Bus Station in Binh Thanh Ward, Yi An, Binh Duong Province. Spanning 29.01 km, the line will connect to Ho Chi Minh City’s (HCMC) Metro Line 1 and pass through Tan Uyen, Thu Dau Mot, Thuan An, and Yi An, with a designed speed of up to 120 km/hr.

This metro line is designed to reduce commuter pressure between Binh Duong and Ho Chi Minh City while also supporting Vietnam’s broader infrastructure-driven economic strategy. Submitted in April 2025, the project is estimated to cost 56.3 trillion VND (about 15.6 billion RMB). Financing will follow a government + social capital model: the Vietnam Development Bank will provide 40 per cent via loans, the Asian Development Bank will contribute 15 per cent in equity, and 45 per cent will be raised through green bond issuance.

HCMC Metro Line 1, which officially opened in December 2024, will serve as a feeder line. It runs 19.7 km, includes 14 stations, and uses 17 Japanese-made trains. This was Vietnam’s first metro line and marked a key milestone in the country’s urban transport development.
