The Philippines Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will commence the rehabilitation of EDSA by June 2025. Initially scheduled for late March and then pushed to May 15, 2025, the project aims to improve road conditions along Metro Manila’s busiest highway. Officials have yet to finalise the traffic management plan, though they acknowledge the work will cause significant congestion. The government will announce strategies to ease traffic disruptions soon. The Edsa Busway will remain operational during the rehabilitation, and alternative routes, including Skyway Stage 3, will be encouraged. The project will be carried out in segments, one lane at a time, with 24-hour work shifts to speed completion.
Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan highlighted that the rehabilitation includes fixing the Guadalupe Bridge, which will require temporary closure of outer lanes from October 2025. This section is critical as it will serve ASEAN Summit delegates in 2026. The DPWH plans to strengthen EDSA’s pavement with reinforced concrete and asphalt treatments to increase durability and improve drainage with high-density polyethylene pipes. The entire project, costing over P7 billion for the southbound lanes, targets a long-term solution to frequent road damage and potholes.
