The Government of Thailand has unveiled plans for a public-private partnership (PPP) Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) centre at Suvarnabhumi Airport as part of its national Aviation Hub strategy. The project aims to provide on-site aircraft maintenance for airlines operating at the airport and is a key step toward positioning Thailand as a regional aviation leader.

Led by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), the initiative has drawn interest from major global players including Airbus, Boeing, and ST Engineering. Thai firms are expected to take the lead role, with land already designated under the airport’s master plan. A separate PPP training centre is also being planned to train pilots, cabin crew, and technicians.

Authorities emphasised that the Suvarnabhumi MRO will focus on short-turnaround maintenance, complementing U-Tapao Airport’s heavy maintenance services. Legal reforms to support Thai investment in air cargo are also underway, with proposals to ease foreign ownership limits.
