The US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) has raised its grant for the pre-feasibility study of the Subic-Clark-Manila-Batangas (SCMB) railway from USD2.5 million to SD3.8 million. The funding supports the Philippines’ flagship Luzon Economic Corridor project aimed at boosting connectivity among major commercial hubs.
According to the Office of the Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs (OSAPIEA), the grant increase follows a competitive consultant selection process. A final consultant announcement is expected soon. The railway is projected to enhance logistics efficiency, lower transport costs, and create substantial employment. The project is also receiving USD1.2 million in grant support from Swedfund and is part of the G7-backed Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment.
