The Government of the Philippines has secured PHP65.4 billion in funding support from Japan for major infrastructure, health, and climate change initiatives.
Among the funded projects, the Davao City Bypass Construction Project (III) will receive PHP17.67 billion for a 45.5 km four-lane bypass road to improve mobility and trade in Mindanao. The Pasig-Marikina River Channel Improvement Project, Phase IV (II) was allocated PHP17.45 billion to strengthen flood control infrastructure in Metro Manila. The Cavite Industrial Area Flood Risk Management Project (II) secured PHP5.52 billion to address flooding issues. Additionally, PHP13.35 billion was granted to the Climate Change Action Program – Subprogram 2 for climate adaptation and disaster preparedness, while PHP11.44 billion was allocated to the Build Universal Health Care – Subprogram 2 to enhance healthcare access.
Japan reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Philippine government’s “Build Better More” program, with discussions ongoing for additional projects, including a Central Mindanao High Standard Highway and a second San Juanico Bridge. Both countries also discussed regional development, disaster risk reduction, and maritime safety cooperation.
