Malaysia-based Petronas has partnered with Italy-based Enilive and Japan-based Euglena into a joint venture (JV) to construct a biorefinery plant at the Pengerang Integrated Complex in Johor, Malaysia. The project, expected to be operational by 2028, aims to produce sustainable aviation fuel, renewable diesel, and hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO). This biorefinery will use diverse feedstocks, including used vegetable oils, animal fats, and biomass like microalgae oils, and is designed for full flexibility in processing various raw materials.

The Pengerang Integrated Complex will host the new facility. Construction is scheduled to begin in Q4 2024, with the biorefinery planned to process around 650,000 tons of raw materials annually.
