The Government of Indonesia has announced plans to increase its rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity, targeting an additional 5.75 GW between 2024 and 2028. This plan involves setting annual quotas for the PLN, aiming to steadily boost solar capacity over the next five years.

According to the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR), the breakdown of these quotas includes 901 MW in 2024, 1,004 MW in 2025, 1,065 MW in 2026, 1,183 MW in 2027 and 1,593 MW in 2028. Despite these ambitious plans, the new quotas fall short of the National Strategic Program’s target, which aims to achieve 3.6 GW of rooftop solar capacity by 2025. This target, set in 2021, underscores the government’s commitment to increasing renewable energy’s share in the national electricity mix. Additionally, Indonesia’s national electricity plan targets a 23 per cent share of renewables by 2025, up from 14 per cent in 2021.
