The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has approved the second phase of the Thailand-China high-speed rail (HSR) project, which will extend from Nakhon Ratchasima to Nong Khai. The new phase will span 357.12 km and will include both elevated and ground-level sections along the train route.
The plan involves constructing five new stations at Bua Yai, Ban Phai, Khon Kaen, Udon Thani, and Nong Khai. The details of the project will be forwarded to the Transport Ministry for further review.
The projected timeline for construction is four years for civil engineering work, followed by an additional five and a half years to establish the electric rail system. The project is expected to be operational by 2031. The environmental impact assessment (EIA) was already approved in February 2024.
