The Government of the Philippines’ infrastructure spending during 2022 was recorded at PHP1 trillion, majorly driven by road and infrastructure projects. This is a 13.4 per cent increase from the PHP895.1 billion spent during 2021.

Some of the key projects funded during the year include the Malolos-Clark Railway, Metro Manila Subway, and the North-South Commuter Railway projects.

For 2023, total infrastructure disbursement is expected to be around five per cent of the national GDP. Focus will be on increasing physical, digital and green infrastructure investments while also increasing the scope of public-private partnerships for major projects. Around PHP479 billion has been earmarked for road projects, P164 billion planned to develop local infrastructure while PHP40 billion has been allocated to the rail sector.
