A track change station linking the Laos-China Railway and the Laos-Thailand Railway has been opened for operations. The station along with the newly constructed 2.8 km track will provide a connection between Vientiane South Station of the Laos-China Railway and Vientiane Logistics Park as well as the Thanaleng Dry Port.

However, both the rail network operates on two different tracks, with the Laos-China rail having a 1.435 metre standard-gauge track while the Laos-Thailand railway has a one metre-gauge track. This will require freight transport to reload at the logistics park’s freight transit yard.

The new rail link between the three countries is expected to reduce the cost of freight transport by almost 40 per cent.
