The Ministry of Transport (MoT) is aiming to deploy an automatic non-stop toll collection (ETC) system across all expressways in Vietnam by the end of July 2022. Works on the system will be carried out by the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam (DRVN), the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC), the Vietnam Infrastructure Development and Finance Investment Joint Stock Company (VIDIFI).
DRVN and VEC will jointly deploy the ETC system on VEC-owned highways while VIDIFI will oversee the pilot program of the system on the Hanoi-Hai Phong Expressway. DRVN will also coordinate with direct build-operation-transfer (BOT) investors to support the installation of ETC stations on expressways.
MOT has also requested service providers to ensure that 80-90 per cent of the vehicles have an e-tag by September 2022. VNDR will direct and support service providers in increasing carding and expanding services to achieve the target rate of vehicles affixed with e-tags. Currently, 65 per cent of vehicles nationally have an e-tag.
The toll collection will be suspended at all stations where ETC hasn’t been deployed by end-July 2022.
