The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) and the Indonesia Toll Road Authority (BPJT) will gradually deploy a contactless open road tolling system, also known as single-lane free flow (SLFF) or multi-lane free-flow (MLFF), in Indonesia by December 2022. The complete adoption of the contactless toll road system is expected to be concluded by September 2023.

Toll roads in the Greater Jakarta metropolitan region will be the first to accept contactless payments. Due to the new toll collection system, the BUJT is expected to be able to collect toll payments more efficiently and the authority will be able to keep 100 per cent of the roll payment revenue.

Contactless toll payments are also expected to minimise traffic congestion at toll gates while simultaneously decreasing pollution and carbon emissions and promoting a nationwide payment digitalisation and cashless programme in Indonesia.
