The Government of Malaysia has launched four additional packages for the Sabah Pan Borneo Highway project, which will connect the regions of Kinabatangan to Telupid. Contractors have been appointed for packages WP15, WP28, WP29, and WP30, and construction works are scheduled to commence shortly. Work on all four packages is scheduled to be completed in 2024.
The first phase of the Sabah Pan Borneo Highway project spans 706 km from Sindumin to Kota Kinabalu, with extensions to Kudat, Tawau to Batu 32 Sandakan, and Ranau. There will also be a new package for the highway project between Serusop, Tuaran, and Pituru, Kota Belud, which will start in 2022 and involve allocations under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP). These five new packages will raise the overall number of work packages completed in phase one of the Sabah Pan Borneo Highway project to 16.
