Hawaiki Submarine Cable Limited Partnership (HSC LP) has announced plans for the development of a 22,000 km Hawaiki Nui submarine cable system, a spatial division multiplexing (SDM) cable, to connect the regions of Southeast Asia (SEA), Australia and United States of America (USA). Construction of the submarine cable system is scheduled to commence in 2022 with commercial operations due to begin in 2025.

The Hawaiki Nui cable system, with a design capacity of 240 Tbps, will enable end-to-end connection across Singapore, Sydney, and Los Angeles. Landings are also planned in Jakarta and Batam in Indonesia. Upon completion, the cable system will be the first underwater cable system to connect the Asia Pacific to the USA.

PT Mora Telematika Indonesia (Moratelindo) has been selected as Hawaiki’s strategic partner for works in Indonesia. Under the partnership, Moratelindo will operate as the landing party and obtain necessary permits and authorisations in Indonesia to execute the Hawaiki Nui project. It will also oversee the system’s design and deployment, determine the most suitable underwater route and landing points in Indonesia and construct local infrastructure to support the landing of the subsea cable.
