The runway and taxiway at the Phu Bai International Airport in Thua Thien-Hue province of central Vietnam are expected to undergo upgradation as part of the airport’s capacity expansion plans. Currently, a new passenger terminal is being constructed at the airport at a cost of VND 2.25 trillion. It is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2021. Once completed, the existing runway and terminal will not be able to handle the additional demand. Thus, the existing infrastructure at the airport will have to be upgraded.  While around VND 620 billion will be spent on developing a new taxiway and extending the existing one, the remaining funds will be spent on the expansion of the runway. With its current infrastructure, Phu Bai airport can only serve 1.5 million passengers per year but it is often overloaded with up to half a million more passengers. The second terminal is expected to serve 5 million passengers per year by 2021 and 9 million by 2030.
