Work on Ho Chi Minh City’s second waste-to-energy (WtE) plant, worth VND 5 trillion, began in the outlying district of Cu Chi on October 16, 2019. The plant will help the city address simultaneously both the problems of waste management and demand for energy. The plant, which is being built by the Tam Sinh Nghia Investment and Development Joint Stock Company, is expected to be completed by the year 2021. The plant will have a daily processing capacity of 2,000 tonnes of waste and generate 40 MW of electricity. The company plans to increase the plant’s daily waste processing capacity to 5,000 tonnes after the first phase enters stable operations. The city, which generates 9,000 tonnes of household waste daily, is planning to construct more WtE plants to raise the total treatment capacity to 7,000 tonnes per day.
