The Transport Ministry of Thailand has announced plans to construct two new airport rail links. One line will serve Don Muang airport in Bangkok via a 22 km dedicated line from Phaya Thai, at an estimated cost of 29 billion baht. The other line will link Bangkok with U-Tapao, a naval airbase, which lies on the coast between Pattaya and Rayong, 190 km south of Bangkok. The two proposed lines would complement the 1,435 mm gauge airport line, linking Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport with the Makkasan station.
