The 60 km stretch of Cambodia’s railway line from Phnom Penh to the Thai border in Poipet has been completed. The section was scheduled to be completed by mid-2016, but was delayed several times due to various factors such as legal hurdles, persistent rain and land disputes.

The trains will operate at a speed of 40-60 km per hour. Although trial runs are yet to commence, the authorities expect the operations to begin soon. Three more stretches, namely, Mongkol Borey-Battambang; Battambang-Pursat and Pursat-Phnom Penh are yet to be completed. The Pursat-Phnom Penh stretch is expected to be completed by June 2018.
