The Xekaman Bridge 2 was commissioned on August 26, 2013. The construction work began in 2011. The construction work was divided into three phases. The first phase involved construction of a 208 metre long and 11.5 metre wide bridge; the second phase involved upgradation of a 4 km long and 9 metre wide road section; and the third phase involved construction of an interchange connecting Road 18B and Road 1J. The estimated cost of the project stands at 46.74 billion kip and has been funded by the Lao and Japan governments. The latter provided 19.92 billion kip as a grant under the Japan–ASEAN Integration Fund.
