The World Bank has approved a loan of $500 million for the expansion and strengthening of Vietnam’s electricity transmission network. The planned project will involve the construction of more than 1,000 km of transmission lines and substations at 220 kV and 500 kV voltage levels. The project will also support deployment of smart grid technologies. The project is estimated to require a total investment of $731.25 million, of which $500 million will be funded by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the World Bank’s lending arm for middle-income countries. The remaining sum of $231.25 million will be provided by the Vietnamese government.
