The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore has commenced construction works on the Cross Island Line (CRL) Punggol extension (CPe). The 7.3-km-long extension comprises four stations, Punggol, Riviera, Elias and Pasir Ris, with three of these serving as interchange stations to existing urban rail lines. The Punggol station will be linked to the North-East Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line and the Riviera stop to the Punggol Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line. Meanwhile, the Pasir Ris station will be connected to the East-West MRT Line.

Work on the extension is expected to be completed in 2032. Once operational, it will reduce travel time from Punggol to Pasir Ris to 15 minutes from the current 40 minutes by bus. The CPe stations will also feature energy-saving features, including solar PV panels and hybrid cooling systems. Low-carbon concrete will also during station construction to offset emissions. This will support the LTA’s goal of developing a green and sustainable land transport network in Singapore

Meanwhile, construction on the first phase of the CRL, covering the section from Aviation Park to Bright Hill, began in January 2023 and is currently ongoing. Tenders for Phase 2 of the line connecting Turf City to Jurong Lake District, are being called progressively. Engineering studies are in progress for Phase 3.
