Work on the North-South Expressway Railway, a planned high-speed rail (HSR) line in Vietnam, is expected to commence by 2030 so that it can be operational by 2045. By 2025, the government plans to finalise the investment policy for the rail project. Post this, a feasibility study will be conducted before proceeding site clearance works.

The Government of Vietnam is also seeking support from the Government of Japan to help fund the USD58 billion rail project.

The HSR line will be 1,559-km-long and will include around 70 stations, out of which 50 will be passenger stations. Trains will operate at a maximum speed of 350 km/hr. It is one of the main urban transit projects in Vietnam which will be connected with major economic centres, seaports, airports, and international borders.
